The 2024 Beer Store Annual Stewardship Report, 'Delivering Circular Solutions for Ontario,' provides details on The Beer Store’s Deposit Return system for beer containers and the Ontario Deposit Return Program (ODRP) for non-Beer Store-listed beer, wine, spirit, and cooler containers. All of these are sold with a 10-cent or 20-cent deposit, which is fully refundable when the container is returned to a TBS retail store or any of our authorized collection partners in Ontario. Highlights of our performance in 2024:
Approximately 1.6 billion alcohol containers were collected from Ontario consumers in 2024 (approximately 1.2 billion Beer Store containers and over 434 million ODRP containers)
Accepted back more containers for reuse or recycling than were sold in our system in 2024.
In 2024, 176,818 tonnes of material was collected by The Beer Store. The estimated avoided emissions of reusing or recycling this material instead of landfilling is equal to about 195,301 metric tonnes of CO2. This is equivalent to taking approximately 46K cars off of the road for an entire year!
